Chris Atkins
Living on Isle of Arran near Glasgow, Chris Attkins has run a number of small businesses through the years including a restaurant and guesthouse. He and his wife recently retired to a new flat and Zen was the only company able to provide Superfast Broadband in the area at the time. This suited Chris as he knew Zen was a Which? recommended provider and was happy to give us a try.

Previous experiences with complex billing
Prior to discovering Zen, Chris had some frustrating experiences with other providers, adding unnecessary challenges to the complexities of running a small business. In particular, he found understanding the complex billing processes “a nightmare – one price promised and another was charged” at a restaurant they ran. But there was little they could do as they were tied into a five year contract. “Dealing with the other providers was always so difficult.”
After experiencing these billing frustrations with previous providers, for Chris, finding Zen was a breath of fresh air. “What you offer is just straight forward excellence and it is hard to fault. The joy of your company – nice folks to deal with, people speak to you as a human being.”
The set-up for retirement
For Chris, when moving into his new flat on retirement, the onboarding experience was quick and straightforward. “We applied for it and it was in and ready by the time we were finished refurbishing the flat. It worked first time as you said it would, which was great.” As Chris and his wife used to work in broadcasting they still dabble in local community video projects. Previously uploading any video content was hit and miss and could take days. But with the Superfast connection, they can now upload a ten minute video in ten minutes! Chris really appreciates “having a secure and reliable connection” when working on such projects.

Lightning strikes
Chris recalls a time a lightning strike damaged some of the fibre infrastructure and took his router out. “Zen had replacement routers in the post the same day so our service was barely interrupted. Even though you would have been inundated with calls, we were able to get through and had great hand holding from the team.” Chris couldn’t believe this was all part of the service and there were no charges for the new routers, not even for postage.
