Founded in Sweden in 1959, Lindab is an internationally recognised business, and is the UK leader in the ventilation industry, providing market-leading services to business throughout the country via its regional branch network, and turning over approximately £45m in the UK alone.

The challenge

Requiring seamless communications between its regional offices, Lindab was hampered by an outdated system. With multiple suppliers, an inability to access and configure systems remotely, and a lack of monitoring and data gathering tools, Lindab’s voice solution was found wanting.

Lindab needed a flexible solution that would allow it to spin up new handsets when and where required, not held back by availability issues; that could be centrally managed, and would provide the modern, scalable, cost-effective and resilient communication the business required.

The solution

Internet connectivity was also provided on Ethernet circuits, using the same infrastructure, something which, as Lindab’s IT manager Greg Wall observes, “no other provider I spoke to could get their heads around and was a big factor in choosing Zen. Zen technical staff understood what we were trying to do immediately.”

The benefits

Lindab’s old, outdated communications infrastructure has been replaced by a modern solution that provides the business with the scalability, resiliency, ease of management and future proofing required. The old setup – multiple systems from multiple vendors requiring support from multiple providers – gave way to a single system, using a single network, from a single supplier.

And this brings with it numerous business benefits, not least the ease and speed of configuration allowing for more effective central management while freeing up time and resources for Lindab’s IT team to spend on important business initiatives.

According to Greg: “Configuration is now much easier. Pushing out changes - and understanding what’s going on if there’s an issue – is all now nigh on instant because of the voice network Zen has provided.”

“Previously, if we discovered that a branch had a power cut, and a divert needed putting on at the network level, it might have taken two hours for that to happen. But now we can do that instantly – we can divert calls elsewhere, and not lose any sales.”

And, says Greg, “the ability to see and understand what’s going on, to recognise any issues, is now much better. We no longer need to be solving problems with our phone system on a day-to-day basis, because the solution provided by Zen just works. And when we need to make configuration changes, it’s a one-minute job.”
