Founded in 1971, the Mon Motors group has grown to become one of the largest automotive dealers in South Wales and the West of England.

The challenge

As a Zen Managed Firewall customer, Mon Motors had an assurance that Zen would provide first class monitoring for malicious activity, and in one particular instance this assurance would prove invaluable.

During routine monitoring activity over the weekend in question, Zen’s security team received an alert that required a fast and decisive response. As Terry Gilligan, Zen’s lead security engineer observed:

We identified a large number of blocked attempts by the customer’s firewall security profiles attempting to access malicious outbound servers. Thankfully, alerts were generated and received by our security team and we were able to jump into action.

The Solution

Terry contacted the customer out of hours to inform them about the alerts and put an action plan into place.

Using a forensic check service powered by Cyber Triage to collect Windows artifacts, the Zen team was able to analyse the data and complete its investigation quickly, with follow up recommendations for action that needed to be taken.

Analysis quickly found the route of the problem, and the customer was kept informed throughout the process as the issue was removed and the issue resolved.

Despite the fact that the issue took place over a weekend, the Zen team was able to quickly come together to provide Mon Motors with the support they needed, ensuring that they were continually updated on the developing situation and next steps as they emerged.
